Boasting one of the largest ski areas in America, nine metres of average snowfall and a beautiful Alpine village centre, it is easy to see why this high end resort is such a popular choice with skiers and boarders alike. Situated only 100 miles West of Denver International airport, Vail is easily accessible for the Winter sports enthusiast.
Vail is a real all-round resort with ski in/ski out access, a good number of beginner friendly slopes and a fantastic ski school for first timers. Lifts are conveniently located right behind the village. On the front side of the mountain you will find the long wide runs suitable for all levels. Intermediates can choose from over 5000 acres of incredible skiing, from perfect pistes to powder bashing. Head into the Blue Sky basin for a real backcountry playground and discover wide-open bowls, tree runs and virtually no people; perfect for those more advanced riders. If such a big area looks a little daunting, during the winter season Community Guest Service volunteers provide complimentary tours of Vail Mountain for any guest whose ability level is intermediate or above, so go along and find out about the best runs from a local that knows.
For something different, snowboarders can leave the pistes behind and head to any of the three terrain parks. Golden peak park is the largest and features a 22’ superpipe, a mini pipe as well as a pro slope style course. Beginners can learn their tricks at Avanti park where you will find smaller features to practice on.
If you’re not tired out from a day on the slopes, the night time hotspots of Vail will keep you going throughout the night. Vail is a pedestrian friendly town with a whole host of shops, restaurants and bars to choose from, all within an easy walking distance or a short free bus ride away. Vail village and Lionshead are the two main base areas and whether you are looking for a laid back bar in which to chill out or an all-out dance party, you are sure to find the perfect place.
