Atlanta

As the self-proclaimed ‘Capital of the New South’, Atlanta is bigger, faster, and glitzier than its neighbouring southern cities and is packed full of culture, history, restaurants, bars and interesting attractions. This burgeoning commercial centre surrounds beautiful Centennial Olympic Park, which honours the legacy of the Olympic Games the city held in 1996. Surrounding the park is the Georgia Aquarium, one of the world’s largest indoor aquariums, and the World of Coca Cola that tells the story of this iconic drink brand, you even get to drink some in the ‘tasting room’.

The city also was the boyhood home of Martin Luther King and is where he preached, and you can learn about his legacy and life at the brilliant Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Park and see his boyhood home nearby. If you’re visiting Atlanta after September 2025, be sure to visit the newly expanded National Centre of Civil and Human Rights which explores the Civil Rights Movement through powerful imagery and poignant storytelling. Atlanta is fast becoming a place for foodies with restaurants serving cuisine from around the world including vegan food. For shopping head to Ponce City Market or to nearby Buckhead – known as the ‘Beverly Hills of Atlanta.’

Savannah

This sophisticated city is known for its lushly landscaped parks, and elegant homes and 22 pretty squares which all have their own unique history and beauty. Sitting on the Savannah River, this utterly charming city is steeped in tradition with historic mansions, cotton warehouses and beautiful antebellum estates. Highlights include the riverfront and popular River Street which is home to an array of shops and restaurants and the arts and entertainment of City Market. Visit majestic Forsyth Park and its iconic fountain and the historic homes of Davenport House and Owens-Thomas House.

Athens

Around a 90-minute drive east of Atlanta, the city of Athens has a young vibe and is home to the University of Georgia and its successful football team. The city also has a thriving music scene which gave birth to bands including R.E.M and the B-52s. Athens is a city proud of its music legacy and lots of up and coming artists still come to Athens to play at the iconic Georgia Theatre and the 40-Watt Club, you can hear live music every night in the city. It also has a small town feel with a vibrant downtown with over 100 restaurants, bars, shops and record shops, plus the beautiful art and paintings at the Georgia Museum of Art.
