Avis Car Rental

You must present the following pieces of information at time of car hire collection (failure to do so will result in you being unable to collect your car hire and full loss of monies paid):

1. Driving License:

All Renters:

i. All renters must present a valid issued driver’s license. A valid driver’s license is one that has not expired and shows no restrictions that would prevent the renter from legally driving a Hertz vehicle.

ii. If the driver’s license in not in English, then an International Driving Permit is strongly recommended; this is required for translation purposes to confirm the validity of the driver’s license for the safety of our renters and for Hertz.

iii. Rates are not valid for U.S. or Canadian citizens or holders or holders of a USA or Canadian License.

iv. A copy of license is not accepted.

2. Credit Card:

Lead Driver:

i. An acceptable, valid credit card in the name of the renter with enough open credit to cover the deposit must be presented at the counter at the time of the rental. See Deposits Required section below.

ii. The credit card, driver’s license, and reservation must all be in the same name.

iii. Only physical credit cards are accepted (either embossed or un-embossed). Virtual cards are not allowed.

Deposit Required: At the time of rental, an authorization hold will be secured on the credit card for the estimated amount of all additional charges payable locally plus up to USD$300.00.

3. Passport:

All renters:

i. All renters must present their passport as a form of identification

4. American Affair Car Voucher:

This will be sent with your travel itinerary (4-6 weeks prior to travel). You must ensure this voucher is presented at the time of car hire collection. You must collect & return the car hire to the depot confirmed on your car hire voucher. No refund is given on partially used rentals or for late pickup.

The minimum driver’s age is 21 years. All drivers 21-24 years will be subject to a daily surcharge from USD$27* per day + taxes which is payable locally.  These fees will be applicable for the full duration of the rental. In the states of New York and Michigan, the minimum driver’s age is 18 years, and the following young driver fees are payable locally:

• In New York drivers 18-20 years will pay USD$84* per day and drivers 21-24 years will pay USD$35* per day, plus taxes payable locally.
• In Michigan drivers 18-20 years will pay USD$41* per day and drivers 21-24 years will pay USD$28* per day, plus taxes payable locally.

A young driver can be a Lead Driver and only one Young Driver per rental. In all instances, vehicle restrictions apply. Please note there is no maximum age if a valid driving licence is held.

Avis ‘Super Plus’ and ‘Super Plus with GPS’ packages include 3 additional drivers.

If further additional drivers are required, the Additional Authorized Driver charge is USD $13.00* per day, with a maximum charge of USD $65* per rental per driver plus taxes and surcharges.  The exception to this is the states of New York and Nevada where the following charges apply:

• New York – USD$5* per day, maximum charge of USD$35* per additional driver plus taxes and surcharges.
• Nevada – USD$11-20* per day, maximum charge of USD$55*-$140* per additional driver plus taxes and surcharges.

Please note Additional Drivers must be at least 25 years old.

American Affair’s rental packages include a tank of fuel. When picked up, the vehicle will have a full tank which is included in the rental. Customers do not need to refill the tank prior to return. There will be no refund for any unused fuel.

Infant and Child seats must be requested in advance and carry a charge from USD $14.50* per day to a maximum of USD $87* plus taxes and fees per rental. Avis requires you to install the child seat yourself.

Early Return

Early returns are allowed but will not incur any reimbursement of unused days.

Late Return

Late returns will be charged USD$10.00* per day or part day + taxes and surcharges plus the prevailing daily rate at the time. The daily rental fees will not be the same as booked. If a passenger in resort needs to return the vehicle later, they are best to call Avis directly to arrange.

Local and government taxes will be payable for any fees / charges paid locally.

The hire of ski racks is subject to availability and is on request in a limited number of ski cities. Ski racks hold 4 sets of skis or 2 snowboards or 2 sets of skis and one snowboard.

Costs payable locally from USD$15.00* per day, plus local taxes and fees. Please call us for further details of depots where ski racks can be hired and available car grades.

Snow tires are available at an additional charge in some USA depots. Please call us for further information.

One-way rentals are permitted at a charge; details of which will be advised at the time of confirming your booking.

One-way fees are payable locally to Avis and are subject to local taxes and surcharges.

Vehicles may be driven into Canada with no restrictions. The rental counter must be notified at the time of rental that you plan to drive into Canada so they can provide a Canadian non-resident insurance card (provided at no cost).

Based on availability one-way rentals may be allowed to certain Canadian cities.

We do not recommend driving hire cars into Mexico. (if you do, please call for further information on Avis terms and conditions).

Unlimited mileage applies to all vehicles.

Minimum rental is 48 hours, and the maximum rental duration is 58 days.

LDW places the responsibility of the vehicle in the hands of Avis. As long as the customer operates and uses the vehicle under the terms of the rental agreement, there is no deductible to pay. LDW is already included in rental packages that American Affair offer. LDW covers damages to the car due to:

• Theft   
• Accidental Damage
• Glass damage
• Vandalism 
• Stolen items (radio, battery etc)

Loss Damage Waiver coverage exclusively applies within the USA. Renters intending to travel to Canadian provinces acknowledge and understand that this coverage does not extend to Canada and accept responsibility for damages and vehicle theft. Therefore, if renting with the intention to enter Canada, renters do so at their own risk and must present proof of current valid vehicle insurance policy with full coverage comprehensive and collision. Avis does not include cover for any damages caused through violation of the terms set within the Rental Agreement, such as:

• Negligent driving / dangerous driving
• Misfuelling (NO DIESEL)
• Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol
• Lost Keys 
• Battery Boost
• Towing of vehicle (excluding if the client got into a collision)
• Gas delivery (up to 3 gallons)
• Tire replacement

Third Party Liability is provided by Avis, which addresses issues when the renter damages somebody’s property, or causes injury or death to another party.

Third Party Liability is provided up to USD$300,000 regardless of the state of rental, unless a higher amount is denoted on your Rental Agreement.

Plan ahead for peace of mind. With Avis Extended Roadside Assistance, you can travel with peace of mind. Avis will take care of you to provide you with roadside services, including:

• Lockout Service - Gain entry when keys are locked inside the vehicle. Get replacement keys or locksmith assistance.
• Flat Tire Assistance & Replacement – Avis will replace a flat or damaged tire with the spare, or get the car towed to the nearest service facility.
• Jump Start - If your vehicle experiences battery failure, Avis will provide a jump start.
• Fuel Delivery - if you run out of gas/fuel, we’ll deliver 3 gallons to your location.

Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)

Personal Accident Insurance provides accidental death and medical expense benefits to the renter and all passengers on the Avis car. The renter is covered for accidental bodily injuries during the entire term of the rental agreement (24 hours a day). The passengers are covered while in the car and while entering & exiting the car. Coverage is for the term of the rental agreement and will not exceed a 30-day consecutive period.

Personal Effects Protection (PEP)

Avis offers its rental customers additional insurance protection for their personal belongings while away from home. The belongings with which the renter and passengers riding with the renter and/or authorized additional driver whose name appears on the Rental Agreement will be covered under the Avis Personal Effects Protection (PEP) Program. Coverage is in effect during the entire rental period of your vehicle. However, the maximum coverage period is 30 consecutive days. Please note the policy is subject to the limits and exclusions described in the policy and brochure.
