Your journey to Salt Lake City starts in the 'Mile High' city of Denver, before climbing onboard the Canyon Spirit train where you can sit back and relax as rugged canyons, the winding Colorado River and the beautiful red rock landscapes of America's Southwest pass you by. The grand finale to your unforgettable train journey is a seven-night Alaskan Cruise where you can marvel at the epic ever-changing landscape of immense glaciers, ice floes, quaint coastal towns and see glorious wildlife including humpback whales, seals, orcas and bald eagles.

Arrive in Denver
Arrive in the ‘Mile High’ city of Denver to spend two nights. Make your way by taxi or take the 30-minute train from the airport into Union Station, located in the heart of Denver. Spend the next day exploring the exciting Downtown area of Denver. 16th Street Mall is a pedestrian friendly mile-long strip packed with shops, restaurants and attractions; getting around is easy using the Free Mall Ride Bus. Stroll around the bustling Union Station area and see the 19th Century train station and admire its stunning architecture and soak up its vibrant atmosphere or enjoy some live music and craft beer in nearby historic Larimer Square. If time permits venture out to Red Rocks Amphitheatre to see a concert and take in the magnificent views!

Denver to Glenwood Springs onboard Canyon Spirit
Depart Denver onboard Canyon Spirit, where you’ll indulge in breakfast and lunch, as well as a selection of included snacks and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Cross the Continental Divide, soaking in breathtaking views of rugged canyons and the winding Colorado River. Arrive in the charming resort town of Glenwood Springs where you will spend the night.

Glenwood Springs to Moab onboard Canyon Spirit
Re-join the train and cross the Colorado-Utah border past stunning mountain ranges and as you get closer to Moab, see beautiful red sandstone landscapes. Arrive in Moab ‘the adventure capital of Utah’ in the mid-afternoon. Optional excursions are available to prebook that visit nearby Arches and Canyonlands National Parks.

Moab to Salt Lake City onboard Canyon Spirit
Depart Moab by motorcoach to Thompson Springs in the afternoon where you will board the Canyon Spirit train. Onboard, you'll enjoy a late lunch and dinner and enjoy sweeping views of majestic rock formations as you wind your way through Castle Gate. You’ll travel through the Price River Canyon ascending the historic Soldier Summit and travel through the historic Thistle Tunnels, continuing your journey past Provo before arriving in the vibrant heart of Salt Lake City. Spend the next two nights exploring Salt Lake City, which has the stunning backdrop of the Wasatch Mountains. Soak up the vibrant restaurant and bar scene, visit the historic and stunning sights in Temple Square that honour the Mormon Church, and if your visit coincides with a Thursday, go and see the wonderful Tabernacle Choir rehearse free of charge.

Salt Lake City to Seattle
Take the just over two-hour flight to the waterside city of Seattle and make your own way to your hotel where you will spend the night. With the magnificent Mount Rainier in the background and set between Puget Sound and Lake Washington, the iconic Space Needle is a great place to start to soak up the breathtaking landscapes. Visit the first ever Starbucks, take in the sounds and smells at lively Pike Place Market or visit Chihuly Gardens and Glass to see its colourful blown glass sculptures.

Holland America Line
Depart Seattle in the afternoon and revel in the excitement as you board your cruise ship bound for Alaska. Sail through Puget Sound and pass the tranquil San Juan Islands and the shoreline of mainland British Columbia and Vancouver Island on your journey towards this iconic destination and the wonderful ports of call.

At Sea
With Holland America’s Explorations Central program, you can immerse yourself in the destination by joining one of the dynamic and informative talks on subjects that include the history of the region, and Alaska’s iconic whales. Or sit back and enjoy the many fine facilities onboard including a spa, swimming pool, a wide choice of restaurants plus bars and live entertainment.

Stephens Passage & Juneau
Today is spent cruising Stephens Passage as you head towards your first port of call in Alaska - Juneau. The waters in Stephens Passage are rich in wildlife, home to humpback whales and giant sea lions. Arrive in remote Juneau, Alaska’s capital city surrounded by water, forests and mountains. A trip on the Mount Roberts Tramway is highly recommended. There are several trails at the top of the mountain with spectacular views of the harbour below. Other recommended activities include stunning Mendenhall Glacier, Juneau’s charming downtown or you can try your hand at salmon fishing.

Endicott Arm & Dawes Glacier
Arrive in Endicott Arm, a 30-mile fjord that snakes through to the Tracy Arm-Fords Wilderness Area where you’ll see the majestic site of Dawes Glacier, a 600 foot-tall, mile wide Glacier. Keep your eyes out for wildlife that call the area home including seals and humpback whales.

Sitka
Today you will spend time in Sitka, where there are many onshore excursions that you can pre-book. One of the popular attractions is the Alaska Raptor Centre, where you can see how they protect and preserve birds of prey by rehabilitating injured birds from across Alaska including eagles, hawks, falcons and owls before returning them to the wild. Other onboard excursions available include hiking in the spectacular Tongass Rainforest or experiencing fly fishing.

Ketchikan
With a strong Native Alaskan culture and fishing industry, Ketchikan is well worth a visit. The scenery of Alaska in the Tongass National Forest and the Misty Fjords National Monument make this area a fantastic place to visit and explore. Take a walk along the boardwalk on Creek Street in the heart of downtown, see totem poles, local art and even try your luck panning for gold.

Victoria
This evening your port of call is Victoria, the beautiful provincial capital of British Columbia. Spend some time walking down the harbourfront area, see the grand Parliament Buildings and the iconic Fairmont Empress Hotel, before embarking for your final journey to Seattle.

Homeward Bound
Disembark your cruise back in Seattle this morning, and explore Seattle further doing some last minute shopping or sightseeing, before taking a taxi back to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
