Your day-to-day plan
Arrive in Dallas
After collecting your car and checking in at your hotel, enjoy the evening with some rest and relaxation before starting your Texas adventure refreshed. The following day, relive one of history’s biggest moments on the JFK trolley tour with a journey through the events of November 22, 1963. For some American TV history, visit South Fork Ranch and take a tour of the setting for the legendary “Dallas” in Parker.
Dallas to Austin, 212 miles
Set off for Austin, the state capital and home of the Texas State Museum and the State Capital Building. Austin has over 250 music venues as well as a vibrant arts scene. Whilst here, you can watch North America’s largest urban bat colony emerge from underneath the Congress Avenue Bridge at sunset. Dine at one of the city’s famed food trucks and enjoy some live music at one of its many music venues.
Austin to Bandera, 117 miles
From Austin journey to Bandera, the Cowboy Capital, for an unforgettable stay at an authentic dude ranch where your package includes all meals and ranch activities, including two horse rides a day.
Bandera to San Antonio, 54 miles
Today involves a short drive to San Antonio, where you can enjoy a walk along the city’s famous River Walk - the most visited tourist attraction in the state, offering museums, food outlets and a variety of shops. You can also explore The Alamo, one of the nation’s most famous historic sites. The fascinating museum details the history of Texas and the mission church, with exhibits that display battle artefacts including weapons and paintings. Head to the nearby San Antonio Missions National Historical Park to explore its four religious frontier missions, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and also visit the awe-inspiring Natural Bridge Caverns, the largest underground attraction in Texas.
San Antonio to Corpus Christi, 144 miles
Corpus Christi’s beautiful beaches are the heart and soul of this Gulf Coast gem, including the Padre Island National Seashore which is a 70-mile stretch of white sand beach. Unleash your adventurous side by windsurfing, parasailing and kayaking on the water. Try a paddleboard yoga class or horseback riding on the sand. Corpus Christi is also the home of iconic attractions like the Texas State Aquarium and the Navy’s USS Lexington. Our favourite dining styles are the Tex-Mex and seafood restaurants, though the city has a varied range of dining options to suit all tastes.
Corpus Christi to Houston, 207 miles
Discover Houston’s architectural past in Sam Houston Heritage Park. Amid the skyscrapers of the downtown skyline this park has conserved the living spaces of Houston from the 1800s. Another of Houston’s top attractions is Space Centre Houston which showcases the past and future of America’s human space-flight programme. It is Houston’s first Smithsonian Affiliate and features more than 400 space artefacts as well as numerous permanent and travelling exhibits. You can also head out on a walk through historic downtown Houston, including Texan Avenue to visit the landmarks around the historical Main Street.
Homeward Bound
Your vacation is coming to the end and it’s time to return your rental car before departing Houston for your homebound flight.
