Day 1-3
Arrive in Dallas
Fly to Dallas and pick up your car and drive to nearby Fort Worth to experience wild west culture. Fort Worth is an authentic cowboy town, complete with wooden boardwalks, old fashioned store fronts and an exciting cattle drive that takes place in the Stockyards district every day. Drive to Dallas, made famous by the television show and visit Southfork Ranch. Dallas is also where John F. Kennedy was tragically assassinated. The Sixth Floor Museum at the Dealey Plaza is a must visit whilst in the city where you can learn about the life of John F. Kennedy, and the events leading up to the assassination.
Day 4-5
Fort Worth to Fredericksburg, 257 miles
This morning drive to Fredericksburg, visiting the historic town of Waco on the way, home to the Waco Suspension Bridge, the oldest suspension bridge in the USA and the Dr Pepper Museum where you can learn about the history of Dr Pepper. Continue to Fredericksburg, which is known for its wineries. The city's German heritage is visible and on display at the Pioneer Museum. In the nearby town square, Marktplatz, the Vereins Kirche is a replica of a 19th-century German church that once stood in the city. The city also pays homage to WWII at the National Museum of the Pacific War, which includes a recreated combat zone.
Day 6-8
Fredericksburg to Bandera, 51 miles
From Austin journey to Bandera, the Cowboy Capital, for an unforgettable stay at the authentic Dixie Dude Ranch. Enjoy the next three nights exploring the ranches' rugged and unspoilt 725 acres on a hike or by horse, your stay includes two horse rides each day and riding experience is not necessary. When not riding you can enjoy the onsite facilities including a swimming pool, hot tub and volleyball and basketball. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included and is served family style in the Chuckwagon Restaurant and there is fun cowboy entertainment most evenings.
Day 9-11
Bandera to San Antonio, 54 miles
Today involves a short drive to San Antonio, where you can enjoy a trek along the city’s famous River Walk - the most visited tourist attraction in the state, offering museums, food outlets and a variety of shops. You can also explore The Alamo, one of the nation’s most famous historic sites. The fascinating museum details the history of Texas and the mission church, with exhibits that display battle artefacts including weapons and paintings. Head to the nearby San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to explore its four religious frontier missions and visit the awe-inspiring Natural Bridge Caverns, the largest underground attraction in Texas.
Day 12-13
San Antonio to Austin, 80 miles
Drive north to Austin, the Texas state capital for a three-night stay. It’s all about the music and food in Austin, with over 200 live music venues playing country, rock ‘n’ roll, blues and jazz music. If you’re into music don’t miss the world-renowned South by Southwest Music Festival that takes place in early Spring and draws well known singers and bands. If visiting during spring and summer, watch the nightly spectacle of the largest urban bat colony in the USA fly out from under the Ann Richards Congress Avenue Bridge at dusk. You certainly won’t go hungry in the many restaurants in the city, everything from iconic Tex-Mex restaurants to food trucks serving food cuisines from all around the world.
Day 14
Homeward Bound
Your Texas adventure is coming to an end and it’s time to drop off your car back at Austin airport for your homebound flight.
