Arrive in Nashville
Upon arrival make your way to your hotel by taxi where you will spend the next three nights. Known as the home of country music, we’ve included a visit to the Country Music Hall of Fame and a tour of RCA Studio B, once the recording home of popular music geniuses such as Elvis Presley and The Everly Brothers during your visit. Be sure to make time for a visit to the Ryman Auditorium and the Grand Ole Opry, as well as sampling some live music in one of the many honky tonk bars on Broadway.

Nashville to Memphis, 212 miles
Collect your car in downtown Nashville and head south to Memphis to experience a change of music genre. Memphis is renowned as the home of the blues and the birthplace of rock and roll. It exudes legendary musical history and as you would expect, has a wealth of things to see and do. Don’t miss a visit to Sun Studio, the birthplace of Rock n Roll! You can also enjoy afternoon tea at The Peabody Memphis and experience the splendid 'March of the Peabody Ducks'. A particular highlight is the Elvis Experience Tour of Graceland, which is included in this holiday.

Memphis to Oxford, 162 miles
Crossing into Mississippi, backtrack slightly to visit Tupelo the birthplace of Elvis Presley, who is commemorated with numerous statues and The Elvis Presley Museum, which traces his early life and music. Continue to the charming and vibrant city of Oxford, former home of the popular author William Faulkner and the University of Mississippi. The pretty Courthouse Square has cute book stores, award-winning restaurants, popular music venues and Neilson’s, the oldest continuously operating department store in the south. Just outside of the town, you can visit Rowan Oak, the former home of William Faulkner.

Oxford to Vicksburg, 230 miles
A plethora of exciting attractions await today, and you can visit all three or choose your favourite. First stop is Dockery Farm, recognised as the ‘birthplace of the blues’ were artists such as Charley Patton, Willie Brown and Howlin’ Wolf created the distinct ‘blues’ sound. The next potential stop is the Grammy Museum in Cleveland, dedicated to the history and winners of the Grammy Awards and music in Mississippi. Continue to Indianola and the B.B King Museum and Delta Interpretive Centre, dedicated to the Delta Blues and the life of legendary bluesman B.B King. We’ve included a stay in an authentic inn during your stay in the riverside town of Vicksburg which was the Deep South’s stronghold during the Civil War. Things to do in Vicksburg include strolling along the Mississippi River, taking photos of the various murals and visiting the National Military Park where the 47-day siege and battle by General Ulysses Grant took place that ended in the surrender of the city.

Vicksburg to Montgomery, 313 miles
Drive east this morning in to Alabama, time permitting stopping in the state capital of Jackson, Mississippi to visit one of its interesting civil war sights, before continuing to Montgomery, Alabama’s state capital. A compact and pristine city, Montgomery lies on the Alabama River and is regarded as the birthplace of the Civil Rights Movement. World-changing events took place here including the Bus Boycott, which began when Rosa Parks famously refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus. Visit the interesting Rosa Parks Library and Museum and the church where Martin Luther King was a pastor. For a drink and a delicious dinner head to the lively Alley Entertainment District.

Montgomery to Birmingham, 91 miles
Head north to Alabama’s largest city Birmingham which played a vital role in the Civil Rights Movement being the centre of the struggle for the civil rights of African-Americans. Learn about their actions at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and their successes in introducing civil rights for all American citizens. Another important site to visit is The Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, just a short walk away, where on the 15 September 1963, a bomb planted by the Ku Klux Klan tragically killed four young girls. Dining is a pleasant experience in the city with an array of fantastic restaurants that are some of the best in the USA.

Birmingham to Huntsville, 101 miles
Drive to ‘Rocket’ city today, regularly voted one of the best places to live in the USA, Huntsville has a great vibe with lots of charm, botanical gardens, and a booming craft brewery scene. The city’s biggest claim to fame is the U.S. Space and Rocket Centre that houses over 1500 different artefacts from America’s space programme. Exhibits include America’s first ever satellite Explorer 1, a Saturn V moon rocket amongst many other interesting exhibits that tell the story of America’s exploration into space.

Homeward Bound
This is your last day to soak up southern hospitality before the two-hour drive back to Nashville airport to catch your overnight flight back to the UK.
