Arrive in New York
Arrive in New York, undoubtedly one of the world’s best-known cities, and make your way by taxi or shuttle bus to your hotel. Enjoy your three nights exploring the ‘city that never sleeps’. To help you navigate your way around we recommend booking a hop on/off bus tour that visits all the different neighbourhoods and attractions including trendy Greenwich Village, the Brooklyn Bridge and Central Park. For views of one of the world’s most recognisable skylines, take a cruise over to the Statue of Liberty and visit the observation deck at the ‘Top of the Rock’ at the Rockefeller Centre.
New York to Boston
Today board your Amtrak train from New York to Boston, where you will pass through the beautiful scenery of the states of Connecticut and Massachusetts. Considered one of America’s most walkable cities, take a stroll around Boston Common, America’s oldest public park, or follow the Freedom Trail, a well-preserved pedestrian path that weaves in and out of historic neighbourhoods visiting Boston’s most historic sights. For lunch head to colourful Quincy Market to taste its wide range of delicious cuisine and for a thirst-quenching beer visit the ‘Cheers’ bar, made famous by the popular television series.
Boston to Hyannis, 71 miles
Collect your rental car in Boston and drive south to Cape Cod, stopping along the way in Plymouth to see the Mayflower replica ship and Plimoth Patuxet, an authentic living history museum depicting life in a 1627 pilgrim settlement where actors dressed in authentic costume portray life as it was then. Centrally located, Hyannis is a great base to explore Cape Cod and you can spend the next few days perhaps visiting Chatham, a quintessential New England village by the sea, or driving to Provincetown, located at the northern tip of Cape Cod to explore its art galleries and quaint shops and enjoying an exciting whale-watching cruise.
Hyannis to Martha’s Vineyard, 30 miles
Drive one hour to the port of Woods Hole to board your ferry to the lovely island of Martha’s Vineyard, an exclusive summer retreat that has played host to the rich and famous including film stars and American presidents. The island is blessed with some amazing must-see attractions including the fabulous views that look out to Aquinnah Cliffs and Gay Head Lighthouse, the historic and charming towns of Edgartown and Oak Bluff and beautiful sandy beaches including stunning South Beach. With unique gingerbread houses, one-of-a-kind restaurants and shops and a relaxed pace of life, any visit to Martha’s Vineyard will be truly memorable.
Homeward Bound
Take the ferry back to Woods Hole today, and then drive back to Boston Airport to drop off your car hire and catch your flight back to the UK.
