Natchez to Greenwood Mississippi, 197 miles
Follow the path of the scenic Natchez Trace Parkway through lush forests passing significant sights that look back at Mississippi’s history from the prehistoric American Indians to the 19th century. Explore Indianola, home of the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Centre, dedicated to the Delta Blues and the legendary artist B.B. King. Continue to Greenwood your base for the night.
Greenwood to Memphis, 243 miles
Choose to drive directly to Memphis this morning or drive north-east to Tupelo the birthplace of Elvis Presley, which is commemorated with numerous statues and The Elvis Presley Museum. Stay two nights in Elvis’s much-loved hometown of Memphis, home of the blues, soul, and rock n’ roll. Overflowing with music including nightly live music on Beale Street, and many must-see musical attractions including the Rock n’ Soul Museum, the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, and Sun Studios. Included during your stay is a visit to Elvis’s beloved home Graceland and his final resting place.
Memphis to Nashville, 212 miles
Drive to the vibrant capital of Tennessee, Nashville where music can be heard all around the city, whether that is on ‘Broadway’ the lively entertainment area filled with honky-tonk bars or at the famous Grand Ole Opry at a music concert. If you like Johnny Cash, visit the museum that celebrates his life and successful music career or the Country Music Hall of Fame, an expansive museum showcasing legendary to current country music artists, and their stories and how they impacted the music industry. A must visit whilst in the city is RCA Studio B, where Elvis Presley and Dolly Parton amongst others recorded their hits which put Nashville in the centre of the world music stage.
Nashville to Miami
Fly to Florida to enjoy a two night stay in Miami, prior to your cruise. Miami is famous for its miles of golden sand beaches, lively nightlife, world class cuisine and its vibrant Art Deco architecture. If you want to escape the city, perhaps take an airboat ride through Everglades National Park where you may spot alligators and other wildlife.
Holland America
Take a taxi from Miami to Fort Lauderdale, known as the Venice of America. Board your cruise this afternoon and settle into your cabin and enjoy the ships’ fine facilities as you leave Florida behind and head for the Caribbean. Sail into the crystal-clear turquoise waters of Grand Turk this morning, one of the beautiful islands that make up the Turks and Caicos Islands. You have the choice of staying onboard or joining one of the many ship excursions. Excursions include snorkelling boat trips, the island is surrounded by colourful coral reefs and marine life, or perhaps visit the charming capital Cockburn Town, and see its colonial architecture and fascinating maritime heritage.
San Juan, Puerto Rico
Arrive in San Juan this afternoon, a treasure trove of culture, history, and natural beauty. Explore the colourful Old Town and its cobblestone streets lined with colonial buildings and vibrant cafes. Visit the UNESCO-listed Castillo San Felipe del Morro and Castillo San Cristobal Spanish Fort, part of the San Juan National Historic Site and learn about the important role they played in Caribbean history. The port area is very walkable and easy to explore and offers great shopping with markets and souvenir shops and restaurant and bars serving tasty seafood and pina coladas, which the island is famous for.
St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands
St. Thomas is your home today, which boasts some of the best beaches in the Caribbean and stunning natural beauty. Optional shore excursions include snorkelling with sea turtles, catching the Skyride to the top of Paradise Point, one of the Caribbean’s most breath-taking viewpoints. Stroll around the harbour town of Charlotte Amalie filled with colonial architecture, forts and fascinating history or island hop over to the nearby island of St. John to see its unspoiled white sand beaches and lush tropical scenery.
