Arrive at Clearwater Beach
Upon arrival collect your hire car before making a short 20-mile drive to Clearwater Beach. Experience the fabulous white sandy beach which is a haven for enjoying the Florida sunshine. From jet-skiing to parasailing, or simply taking a swim in the calm waters of the Gulf, there is something for everyone. Take a relaxing walk down the beachfront promenade, which is lined with restaurants and cafes, or for the more adventurous, hire a bike or rollerblades. At sunset, enjoy street performers at Pier 60 whilst the sun gently sets on the horizon. Or if you want a bit of city life, head to nearby Tampa Bay, and its vibrant neighbourhoods including Ybor City or for thrill seekers spend a day at Busch Gardens theme park.
Clearwater Beach to Sarasota, 64 miles
Enjoy a leisurely drive as you journey down the Gulf Coast as you cross Tampa Bay for Sarasota Bay and Lido Key, your home for the evening. Enjoy the sandy beach before enjoying the hospitality found at Siesta Key Village, which comes alive after sunset with live music, tiki bars and great food to wrap up another great day in Florida.
Sarasota to Naples, 118 miles
The drive down the Gulf Coast will take you past the beach cities of Venice Beach and Fort Myers. Time permitting make a stop at Fort Myers to visit the Edison and Ford Winter Estates, which houses original cars and artefacts from these famous inventors, before arriving in the charming and elegant city of Naples. With miles of unspoilt beaches, art galleries and a fantastic array of boutiques and restaurants on Fifth Avenue, your days will be filled with joy and amazement. Catch a game of crazy golf or for the real enthusiasts, take in a round of golf on one of the areas many championship courses.
Naples to Key West, 241 miles
The drive today will take you across the Tamiami Trail across the Everglades as you journey to the Southernmost point of the Continental USA, Key West. Your journey takes you down the mighty US Overseas Highway where you will wonder at the magnificent Seven Mile Bridge that connects the Middle Keys to the Lower Keys and offers some of the most beautiful views of the Ocean. Take in the Hemmingway House & Museum, enjoy the street performers in Mallory Square as you enjoy the sunset. You will not want the day to end.
Key West to Key Largo, 97 miles
A return journey up the Overseas Highway will take you to Key Largo, made famous for the 1951 Humphrey Bogart movie, The African Queen. Home to the world’s largest artificial reef, the 510-foot USS Spiegel Grove, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, and the African Queen boat. Activities include fishing and kayaking. For a once in a lifetime opportunity, Meet the Pod at Island Dolphin Care (reservations required) and get to interact with the bottlenose dolphins.
Key Largo to Miami, 70 miles
After a short drive to Miami Beach, it’s time to return your rental car and enjoy the remainder of your stay in Miami Beach. Marvel at the Art Deco architecture on Ocean Drive, Collins Avenue and Washington Avenue. Take time out to do some retail therapy at Lincoln Road Mall. Enjoy dining in one of the many fine eateries and experience the iconic nightlife. Best of all, for the sun lovers, the pristine white sand beach is quite simply hard to resist.
