Arrive in Chicago
Check in at your hotel and spend the rest of the day experiencing the magnificence of the Windy City. Stroll the lakefront and visit Navy Pier, or take an architectural boat tour on the Chicago River. Visit the second tallest building in North America, the Willis Tower, and check out incredible panoramas from 360 Chicago which offers breathtaking views of the city and Lake Michigan. One of its unique attractions is TILT, an exhilarating experience that tilts you out over the city from the 94th floor. In the evening, why not indulge yourself at one of Chicago’s famous pizzerias? The city will blow you away with the sheer number of things to see and do.
Chicago to Saugatuck, 145 miles
After collecting your rental car, head off for the shores of Lake Michigan and the beauty of Saugatuck - a charming artists' colony and tourist destination which boasts many unique shops and excellent restaurants. Take a stroll to the harbour, stopping in the art galleries and shops of this historic lakeside town.
Saugatuck to Traverse City, 117 miles
Traverse City frequently receives recognition as one of the most beautiful small towns in the US. Hovering over 400 feet above vibrant Lake Michigan, the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore never fails to wow its visitors. If you fancy a tipple, the 40 wineries and tasting rooms of the Traverse Wine Coast are sure to please your palate.
Traverse City to Mackinaw City, 102 miles
Mackinaw City is a village on the northern tip of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, sitting between Lakes Superior and Huron, and is one of the top places to visit in Michigan because of its location and rich history. It’s also one of the two main ferry ports for those wanting to visit the jewel of the Great Lakes, Mackinac Island. If you make the trip, be sure to visit Fort Mackinac, located on a bluff overlooking the entrancing Straits of Mackinac, and enjoy the view from the porch of the Grand Hotel before returning on the ferry to the village.
Mackinaw City to Marquette, 168 miles
Marquette is the largest city in the Upper Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan and located on the shores of Lake Superior. With a hip craft beer and food scene, a bustling downtown and an abundance of outdoor recreation, there is plenty to explore in this wonderful city.
Marquette to Green Bay, 178 miles
Your drive today will take you to Green Bay, located at the bottom of the arm of Lake Michigan and home of the Green Bay Packers American football team. Rail enthusiasts can visit the National Railroad Museum, containing locomotives, passenger rail cars and other artefacts, whilst those in search of some culture can explore the central Neville Public Museum, showcasing the art, history and science of the region. With wineries, botanical gardens and a zoo, Green Bay has it all.
Green Bay to Milwaukee, 117 miles
As Wisconsin's largest city, Milwaukee continues to celebrate its famous beer brewing heritage whilst expanding its appeal with an alluring arts scene, big-city attractions, revitalised historic districts and a farm-to-table culinary scene. As the self-proclaimed City of Festivals, Milwaukee is home to many summer events, including Summerfest, the world's largest music festival. Explore unique attractions such as the Milwaukee Art Museum, Miller Park and the Harley-Davidson Museum, and experience the city's brewing heritage on tours offered by MillerCoors and local microbreweries such as the Lakefront Brewery.
