Arrive in Calgary
Arrive in Calgary, lovingly called ‘Cowtown’ due to its long cattle rearing history for a two-night stay. We recommend heading to the 191-metre-tall Calgary Tower which dominates the city’s skyline. Take in the incredible Calgary city views, the rolling prairies and the Rocky Mountains and stand on the amazing glass floor that looks over the bustling streets below. Stroll around the vibrant and cool neighbourhoods, visit the new Sam Centre, that brings the history of the famous Calgary Stampede which is held in Calgary every July to life through interactive exhibits. For music lovers explore the five floors of exhibitions and memorabilia that tells the story of Canadian music at Studio Bell.

Calgary to Drumheller, 84 miles
Pick up your car downtown this morning and head east towards Drumheller, admiring the prairies as you head to the Canadian Badlands. The scenery here is very different to the rest of Alberta with dramatic canyons and unique sandstone rock formations called ‘hoodoos’. Drive out to the Red Deer River and to Horsethief Canyon for stunning views of the Badlands before heading onto the Royal Tyrrell Museum which displays one of the world’s largest collection of dinosaurs and is still an active dig site where fossils are continue to be found.

Drumheller to Brooks (Dinosaur Provincial Park), 88 miles
Make the short journey to Dinosaur Provincial Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to the fossil discoveries made here, dating back 75 million years. Along the way you will pass attractions such as the Star Mine Suspension Bridge hanging over the Red Deer River, the otherworldly Will Creek Hoodoos, and the Atlas Coal Mine National Historic Site.

Brooks (Dinosaur Provincial Park) to Waterton Lakes National Park, 167 miles
As you travel west, back over the prairies, the tips of the Rocky Mountains will begin to appear on the horizon and seemingly grow as you head towards Waterton Lakes National Park. This gem of a park makes up half of the Glacier-Waterton International Peace Park, the first of its kind in the world. Inside this stunning national park expect to find clear lakes, thundering waterfalls, and mountain vistas. Spend a full day in the park, exploring the many hiking trails, taking a canoe out on Cameron Lake or joining a lake cruise on Waterton Lake.

Waterton Lakes National Park to Whitefish ( Glacier National Park), 103 miles
Cross the border into the USA and enter Montana’s spectacular Glacier National Park through its east entrance St Mary. Join the ‘crown jewel’ of Glacier National Park, the 'Going to the Sun Road', one of the most scenic roads in the whole of the US. Stretching 50 miles across the park and the Continental Divide, the road traverses the most jaw-dropping views including majestic mountain peaks, glacier-carved valleys, ice blue glaciers and meadows packed full of wildflowers. Look out for wildlife including moose, bears, and mountain goats and take a cruise or kayak on one of the blue turquoise lakes including Lake McDonald. Stay for two nights near the west entrance of the park, in historic Whitefish which has a gorgeous mountain backdrop. The following day enjoy the many outdoor activities in the town including cycling or hiking on the many trails around the town or relaxing by Whitefish Lake or enjoy another day exploring Glacier National Park.

Whitefish to Coeur d’Alene 235 miles
Drive south via Kalispell and then onto Flathead Lake, the largest freshwater lake in the west to admire its crystal-clear waters. Then drive into Idaho heading close to the silver mining town of Wallace and to the Route of Hiawatha, a former railroad line which has been converted in to a jaw dropping 15-mile hiking and biking trail with the most incredible views. Continue to the pretty waters of Coeur d’Alene for an overnight stay. Hire a bike and cycle around the lake or take a lake cruise.

Coeur d’Alene to Yakima, 225 miles
Next stop is Yakima in Washington State, perhaps making a stop in the city of Spokane to see its dramatic waterfalls or to visit Riverside State Park. Your home for the next two nights is Yakima, one of the states’ biggest producing wine regions with over 90 vineyards and wineries due to the area having over 300 days of sunshine a year. Its beautiful climate lends itself to the great outdoors with fly-fishing, rock climbing or scenic float trips along the Yakima River available. Enjoy the charming downtown, sip tasty Washington wine and soak up the glorious sunshine during your two-night stay.

Yakima to Mount Rainier National Park, 74 miles
Drive west to the spectacular sight of Mount Rainier, one of the most iconic images of the state which is still an active volcano. Located inside the national park, it’s the perfect place for those who love the outdoors life. Hike through the deep forests and through the wildflower meadows or for the more adventurous climb close to the mountain’s glaciers and tundra.

Mount Rainier National Park to Seattle, 93 miles
Head to the waterfront city of Seattle, visiting the fascinating Museum of Flight near to Seattle airport on the way. The museum houses a wide range of aircraft from different eras and countries including aircraft used in World War I and 2, Air Force 1, Concorde and one of the first Boeing 747's and 787's. Continue to vibrant Seattle for a two-night stay taking in the fabulous city and mountain views from the Space Needle, grabbing a coffee in the first ever Starbucks and taking in the sights and smells at lively Pike Place Market.

Seattle to Vancouver, 143 miles
Today drive back into Canada to the pretty harbourside city of Vancouver, often voted one of best places to live in the world. Surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and Coastal Mountain Range you can’t help but fall in the love with the stunning setting of the city. Drop your car off and explore the city on foot, first visiting famous Canada Place to see the many cruise lines that sail to and from Alaska. Stroll or cycle around the harbour and pretty Stanley Park, visit the many shops on bustling Robson Street, and the diverse neighourhoods including Gastown and Chinatown. Time permitting, take a day trip by ferry over to Vancouver Island to visit the charming city of Victoria and the colourful and beautiful floral displays in Butchart Gardens.
