Arrive in Washington DC
Welcome to America’s capital city, Washington DC, where you will spend the next three nights. There is so much to see in the city with the bonus that many of the attractions offer complimentary admission. Visit one of the many world-class Smithsonian Museums which offer free entry including the National Air and Space Museum and the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Explore the city’s famous monuments including the White House, the Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials and the Washington Monument. In the evening enjoy dinner or a drink in the lively and trendy neighbourhoods including Georgetown and Dupont Circle.

Washington DC to Luray, 93 miles
Pick up your car today and head towards the mountains to Luray, located in the Shenandoah Valley and a great base to explore Shenandoah National Park. Surrounded by spectacular scenery including the Blue Ridge Mountains, enjoy a day driving along pretty Skyland Drive stopping at the various lookout points and Luray Caverns, the largest caverns on the east coast or take one of the many short hiking trails to get up close to the natural wonders of the park.

Luray to Charlottesville, 61 miles
Take in the incredible Skyline Drive before turning inland to Charlottesville to visit Monticello, former president Thomas Jefferson’s home and a World Heritage Site. Visit his beautiful plantation home and gardens which give an informative insight into his life. Experience Charlottesville’s historic downtown with over 120 shops and 30 restaurants, get an insight into university life on a campus tour at the University of Virginia, another World Heritage Site or for wine connoisseurs explore the 40 wineries on the Monticello Wine Trail.

Charlottesville to Richmond, 71 miles
A short drive will lead you to Richmond, where you will spend one night exploring its rich history and its part in the civil war, its thriving art scene and pretty river and city views. Explore the Virginia State Capitol, designed by Thomas Jefferson, or visit the American Civil War Museum to learn more about this transformative period in US history. For art lovers The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts has an impressive collection of works spanning 6,000 years of world history and offers free admission.

Richmond to Williamsburg, 51 miles
Drive to charming Williamsburg, part of the Historic Triangle that includes Jamestown and Yorktown. The centrepiece of Williamsburg, Colonial Williamsburg is a living-history museum that brings the 18th century to life. Visitors can explore the beautifully restored buildings, interact with costumed interpreters, and learn about life in early America during the colonial period. Enjoy local cuisine in one of the historic taverns, or for those wanting a modern twist enjoy the thrilling rides at Busch Gardens Williamsburg or treat yourself to some bargains at the Premium Outlets.

Williamsburg to Virginia Beach, 59 miles
End your fly-drive relaxing on the wide sandy beaches of Virginia Beach for three nights. On arrival, leave your car at the hotel and walk or cycle along the three-mile boardwalk which leads to museums and entertaining street performers or get out on the water on a kayak or on a dolphin cruise. For more of a chilled-out vibe head to the nearby Chesapeake Bay and Serene Beaches.
